About Robert Bristow
My Approach
I'm a Pluralistic-Integrative Psychotherapist, working with clients of any age. I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches - including Human Givens, Psychodynamic, Humanistic, and Cognitive Behavioural models - and we decide together, at your initial consultation and as we go, which fits your needs best. There's no single approach that suits everyone, so your sessions are shaped around you.
I've worked with a wide range of difficulties, including school-attendance issues, parental support, anger, anxiety, depression, grief, child behaviour, emotional resilience, phobias, gaming issues, autism/ADHD (ASC/D), and family support.
My Background
Before becoming a Graduate Member of the British Psychological Society and then training as a psychotherapist, I spent 18 years in education, including as an Assistant Headteacher in two secondary schools with Post-16 provision, and teaching on postgraduate programmes at two universities. I hold a (BA Double Hons) degree and PGCE in German and French, a specialism in EAL student needs, and a Master's in Education (Leadership & Management). I've also worked with children in care and served as a school's Designated Child Protection Coordinator (now DSL).
That background means I understand not just the therapy side of things, but the real pressures of school, family and organisational life - particularly around SEN/D, inclusion, and safeguarding.
Autism Assessment
I work as part of a multi-disciplinary team alongside a Senior Consultant Clinical Psychologist and a Speech and Language Therapist to provide a fully recognised private autism (ASD) diagnosis, including the ADOS-2 assessment. I'm trained to assess children, young people and adults of any age.

Working with Schools & Organisations
I also support schools, colleges, universities and larger organisations — from whole-institution CPD/INSET training to bespoke, one-to-one coaching for staff supporting a specific child or young person, including lesson observations where useful. For organisations, I can help with team motivation, morale, and navigating significant events or relationship issues. Get in touch to discuss what you need.

What to Expect in a Session
Whatever's brought you here - your own situation, your family's, or a wish to build healthier practices in a team you lead - a first consultation is a chance to find hope for a next step.
Therapy is a process of growth and self-discovery. In our sessions, I'll encourage you to understand and reflect on how you'd like to be - and that self-compassion, alongside new understanding and possibility, is often a real turning point. Sometimes people simply need a reminder of their own way forward.
Come as relaxed, open and honest as you can - that's what gets the most from our time together. Depending on your circumstances, we might work together for a few sessions or over an ongoing series with review points. Most people finish once they've seen real improvement; some return later for a new focus. There's no fixed pattern - everyone's needs are different, and getting the right help matters more than following a set formula.
I have the experience and the tools to help you get back on track.
